Floating cities, the LEGO House and other architectural forms of the future | Bjarke Ingels
Design gives form to the future, says architect Bjarke Ingels. In this worldwide tour of his team’s projects, journey to a waste-to-energy power plant (that doubles …
I've wondered for decades why they haven't done things he talks about. I can't be the only one. Maybe technology has finally made these things possible.
I'm a commercial diver on fish farms in Canada, and we've often had conversations about how a reef style farm, one that's a part of the ocean, not just in it, was the way of the future. None of us even had the ingenuity to think about building a whole city around that idea
The big question for BIG, would be. Considering that sunlight is vital for the develop of life underwater (actually everywhere) , how can we measure the impact of the shadow of this floating cities, specially if they are planning to develop food and reefs under it.
There are not going to be any "Scandinavian floating cities". If you build it, and it works, they're going to tow it away to someplace warmer and brighter.
Fish : why are humans intruding our world Human : coz we love Lego Fish: what about us Human: you need to change brother and join hands with Lego.. They'll probably build AQUA CITIES FOR YOU ON THE LAND WITH HUGE ECOSYSTEM WHERE YOU CAN DO MOUNTAIN SKIING..
It would also be cool if after it had expanded you could fill the central gap with a larger building surrounded by the other smaller buildings as a sort of root system to keep the larger building stable. Then imagine the view looking out from the top of that building out over the small city and into the tropical archipelago. The tourism possibilities would be crazy with things like pools submerged into the water to view the biodiverse ecosystem below where you are staying.
i wanna play this TED for all my college teachers/supervisors because we’re doing projects with the worst material possible, my side class named “thermal comfort” literally teach us that concrete is the most inefficient material to build (energetically, economic and sustainably) YET WE’RE DESIGNING BUILDINGS WITH THIS MATERIAL i’ll find a way to introduce biomimetics into my next semester and hopefully change something into that godforsaken college
those clustered floating houses are amazing looking. id love to walk amungst them. it would be cool if they added a few community floated platforms with and or without structures on them amoungst the clusters.
I appreciate the innovative thinking and the initiative of the floating city. I think it deals with a lot of problems with our current architectural model. However, if an architectural system requires us to adapt our way of living significantly, the likelihood of its success on a global scale is most likely limitied. To dictate that 'to live on this archipelago you must only eat fish and plants' for me is the possible downfall of this system. Could we possibly rethink this system so as to incorporate the things that people actually enjoy doing without such a heavy expectation for compromise?
Cyclone, typhoon, tsunami…. how to deal with those?
MAS ITU PAKE APLIKASI APA!?
Insted of fighiting climate change let's just continue fucking it up. I mean hey, humans float so we'll be fine

How about land floating cities. They're on land, so you can stack them. Of course, you'd have to change the solar energy configuration

Bjarke is totally a genius !!
please please please
Cuanto cobró el arquitecto por estar en TEDx?
I’m an architecture student… my dream is work with this man 👏🏼👏🏼 so amazing ideas
I'm proud of being a Dane right now

It's a fractal city
This is so awesome!
No dairy diet? Come on Elon, going to mars. Skiing on the roof of a power plant is just shocking ;p
realy good
Materials to make (and fix/maintenance) those islands still have to be imported, I think
Bjarke ingles is thinking like he's from the future💪. I love his works

More realistic than going to Mars.
