After a lot of requests, I decided to chime in on marijuana legalization. But after sharing it early with Patreon supporters, I got a lot of feedback about issues I may …
Marijuana will become totally legal again when the economic big players are fully positioned to take advantage. Just like the history of light rail service in Greater Los Angeles. Some of same entitles (if you bother to check into their antecedents), who tore up the Pacific Electric Railway system (the Red Car line), etc, there in the Basin (and out to places the new lines will never take you) because roads and cars and buses and the gas and tires and other stuff they will sell you to use them are the way of the future β FFW to LA's Metroline today β same people (again, some of them) getting fat going back the other way. Keep watching what happens to Cannabis legalization closely and see if I am incorrect.
One study that I would like to see done on cannabis is on its apparent affect on glucose transport in respiration. I have a partner who is a type II diabetic that uses weed in combination with diet and insulin to control her glucose levels.
THC is a known appetite stimulant. If it weren't the Spicolli pizza delivery scene in class at Fast Times at Ridgemont High would never have happened – sorry Mr. Hand. But why does THC stimulate appetite? It does so by lowering blood glucose levels. If serum glucose levels are lowered, that's because some mechanism has allowed (or aided) the process of transporting glucose across the cellular membrane so that the cellular mitochondria can produce energy for the cells.
She'll take a reading of say 230 (normal range is 110 to 140), then she'll torque a Blunt and take a few units of insulin. Thing is, if not for the weed she'd be taking up to a third more insulin!
This isn't rocket science here. You smoke weed and everyone knows you get the munchies. Why? Because the THC you've just consumed has lowered your serum glucose levels. Serum glucose levels are directly dependent upon cellular uptake. Insulin regulates that uptake. Ergo, THC has some moderating effect on either insulin sensitivity or insulin production or both.
Who would fund the studies? Despite that, we do live in a hypocrical society where alcohol is okay, but marijuana is not. To live in a free society people should be allowed freedom of choice with respect to marijuana use.
That "stoned guy" impression thing in the beginning was a little nauseating…I hate that stereotype more than anything. Beyond that though, solid video.
Aside from the recreational drug harvested from this plant family, there are quite a few other very good uses from the non-drug variant:
Hemp seed has a high nutritional value and is healthy for both humans and animals. It can also be used to make hemp oil, which is rich in alpha-Linolenic acid (20%) and Linoleic acid (60%) which are Essential fatty acids the human body can't produce. Studies show hemp oil has a positive effect on Cholesterol levels. Hemp seed can also be ground to hemp flower, which is gluten free.
The fibers in the bark yield long and strong strands which are easy to separate from the wood. It can be used to make rope, textile, paper and insulation. Hemp textile is very durable.
The wood from the plant has a high combustion value, which means most of its energy is transferred as heat when burning and leaves little ash. It's also the main ingredient of lime-hemp concrete.
And the list goes on..
The best of all, it's a weed. It grows like crazy, can be planted very dense and is not dependent on pesticides since the diseases hemp does get, rarely have impact on yield.
Joe you know… You have to do episode on the pros (if any) and cons ("sorry") on thhe private prison system. I Agree on legalizing it. Apparently it helps eldersβ€οΈπ¬π§
Joe – regarding 6. – a friend of mine died recently from prolonged alcohol abuse. He started drinking, because he got in trouble for smoking. I think that A LOT of current alcoholics would switch or have never even become an alcoholic, if marijuana would be legal and just as easy to get as alcohol is.
Right so I read your disclaimer… watched the vlog. Joe I live in a seaside town in the UK. I can hardly get away from the cat's piss smell of weed every time I step outside. It is kinda decriminalized in the UK but is still being sold by drug dealers not regulated by the state. But mainly it is that God damn aweful stench that makes me feel physically sick every time I walk down the streets round here. I don't smoke… we have a smoking ban in public venues in the UK. I have never smoked but if I open a window my "neighbour" is puffing Mary Jane all over the street and straight into my house. You cannot legalise a smoked substance because I have no choice on what I inhale in public areas and anyone who smokes weed doesn't care about my lungs and brain they are just indulging themselves. I know there will be hate on this comment but come on I don't run wine into your kitchen tap.
I think that the real danger in alcohol is not what it does directly to the body so much as the effect it has on the bodies of others when you do things impaired on the alcohol
The most dangerous part of cannabis use is arrest!!! Being forced into counseling service for your cannabis use. Bless you for, THE LINE IN THE SAND! Like you do, sometimes…rarely… ok.
Two or three black pepper corns sublingually, (under the tongue) will stop paranoid ideation in their tracks. Also, CBD taken sublingually will stop paranoid ideation.
It doesn't really matter u can find any drugs anywhere in the world here where i am it is illegal and nobody give a fuck with a single call u can have weed delivered to your door or buy it pretty much anywhere as for my i think every drug should be legal u cant stop it so might as well profit
Israel has been researching thc for years, the FDA doesn't recognize overseas studies, but your pro cannabis people look to Israeli studies to back their claims.
I bought verified and tested CBD oil and tested it on myself. I suffer chronic pain and anxiety. I used it for a month, and then discontinued it. I found no difference in how I felt. Then six months later, I used it for two months and then discontinued it. I found no difference in how I felt. The only difference was my wallet was lighter. Now as for marijuana, back when I still had access to it, I would smoke about a quarter of a joint about a half hour before bedtime, and I would feel better, and I got a better nights sleep, and woke up usually feeling a little better. But the morphine and the muscle relaxer and the mood medicine and the sleep medicine I was prescribed after my days of m.j. use, was not as good. After ten years of being on a prescribed narcotic, I finally wrote a long letter to my hospital and rejected any more usage of morphine. It was not doing a good job for the pain, and the side effects were just overwhelming. No more narcotics. But I have no access to m.j. because of the state and federal government that I live in. I still take the mood medicine and the sleep medicine, although the sleep medicine makes it difficult to get up in the morning. I am very restricted in what I do. I have severe pain and things that stem from that pain. But my options are extremely limited. So I don't go out much. Lets speak about addiction: Perhaps I am different. I was told that it would take one to two months to break out of using morphine. Not for me. First day I went from 4 to 3 tablets. Nothing. So next day I went from 3 to 2 tablets a day. Nothing. Next day I went from two to one tablet. Something like allergy symptoms kicked in. So I stayed on one tablet a day for about five days until the allergy symptoms let up. Then I quit the morphine. The mother of all allergy attacks kicked in. Snot, teary eyes, etc. That slowly died down. I was also told that I might have a desire for morphine from time to time. It has been a year now and no desire for it whatsoever. That is just me. People are different. My dad went cold turkey on tobacco and had no problems, my mom died from tobacco, she could not break the addiction. Over many decades I have only met one person that I would say was physically addicted to m.j., and he told me that he started smoking pot at the age of eight. When he had to go without m.j., he would shake, get flushed, and his behavior would change. So for this one reason alone, I am in favor of legalization. The reason is that licensed dealers are not going to sell to minors. I favor laws that would prohibit the selling of pot within a kilometer of a school zone including up thru college. I also favor a prohibition on advertising the product. I also favor strong punishment for anyone caught selling m.j. to a minor. Well, that's my two cents worth of say.
Studies have shown permanent damage to the brain from THC…fact…don't believe everything you hear on youtube…I like watching you Joe but this one is far reaching.
It's way past time to legalize it. It is literally the only thing that helps all of my medical issues. The VA gives me so many different meds that dont work, or make me sick or cause other medical issues.
Banning medical research on any chemical is counterproductive. It makes no sense. Unless they knew, beforehand, that there is a huge benefit in the chemical. Think about it. The pharmaceutical giant want's you to buy there, useless, drugs instead of drugs that really work. Like THC and ……………………………………………………………………………………………… What was I talking about ?
We should legalize everything and promote responsibility.
Alcohol is legal and I choose not to drink it. I would have the same approach to most drugs is they were legal. I wouldn't consume anything other than weed honestly. But the people should choose for themselves.
Cannabis by itself is not addictive, but if you mix it with tobacco, it becomes highly addictive. The tobacco cloaks the surreal high that pure cannabis provides. The addition of tobacco turns cannabis into into a soporific, which is quite pleasant, until you realise it sabotages your drive to get up and do something productive. The addictive character of tobacco drives the repetative desire to smoke all of the time, and you never get high, you only get stoned. Keep it pure!!
Well we know how prohibition worked out…..same as a gun ban will work…..you have to teach kids respect and self control then they don't need daddy gov to change their dyties for the rest of their lives or when they get old for that matter.

Also marinol is approved by fda

4 guys get together and drink and a fight breaks out. 4 guys get together and smoke weed and form a band. -shut up Mike! π

Great job Joe! As usual. Great description as well
It's too late at night for me to fully explore the rabbit hole, but the first article was encouraging.
Decriminalization and education
Free the weed !
i am undecided and so i do both.

Hey! Alcohol has been helping ugly people have sex for millennia!

I believe Texas has recently expanded medical marijuana laws. HB 3703 passed in June 2019.
