Amazon Empire: The Rise and Reign of Jeff Bezos (full film) | FRONTLINE
An inside look at how Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos built one of the largest and most influential economic forces in the world — and the cost of Amazon’s convenience …
Back to the Guilded Age, turn of the century, Oligarchy, Monopolies, Political Corruption. History repeating itself. The ultra wealthy paying no taxes. Tramping on the little guy. Took a Teddy Roosevelt to turn things around. Trump ain't no Teddy.
This expose is ridiculous. If Fronltine wants to go after an industry it should focus on Big Pharma where unconscionable profiteering and price gouging is rampant and out of control but is too complicated for politicians and apparently journalists to deal with.
I’m sure I’ll get responses, but I’m giving my opinion just the same. Amazon has become the undefeated powerhouse it is because they have made brilliant decisions at almost every turn. Most people won’t speak up because the fact of the matter is however much hating big money is so popular now, in reality, Amazon gives ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE AND ANYONE the opportunity to sell anything from materials, detergents to actually selling YOURSELF thru writing….. to pretty much any and every dream. People talk about the jobs lost and the mom and pops now defeated. Factually, any and every person has the PLATFORM and the ability to cheat something great. Of course Bezos and the corporation is going to use thier power. News flash, that is how every business since the beginning of this country reacts. The government has not only allowed the unfettered development of the many phases and divisions of what is such a powerhouse of a business. In reality, they paved the way for Amazon to become “a bully”. I’m not presuming they are, I am only acknowledging the playability of the accusation and the unquestionable likelihood of it happening in NUMEROUS manners. The question is this – Do the benefits of what we receive each month as a customer or a sellers or a creator outweigh what we freely give amazon. We are not without choices. There are numerous companies now who actually received their start and success with amazon who are branching out on other platforms. The problem is there are very few other choices as far as other platforms. There will be. Bezos is king of the kingdom for now, but no power ever goes unchecked. As far as the government. They have actively promoted monopolization of companies similar to amazon in multiple fields. They (especially during the Obama administration) just threw the book out on anti-trust laws. Personally, I believe a great deal of that was due to after the 08 crash it was done or some backroom deal that kept the banks happy after their supersized welfare check. Now, the monster they created is working against them and somehow, some way, given the numerous branches and powers of government, they will do their fair share of butting heads and showing who the real bully can be if awakened. As for me, I have personally actually made a very small amount of money with Amazon, but I’ve had a terrific time exploring possibilities of talent. I wish Amazon the absolute very best at whatever they choose to do. I really like Amazon and it has had some very positive experiences. I still have the future to try more with them. A little extra money under the table is a small price to pay considering the benefits the company CAN provide IF it is lucrative proposition. So for all the hate I may get,I AM A 100% FOR AMAZON PERSON! I have never seenANY company provide more opportunities. As for those out there always hoping for free things and for the little man to immediately make every company a worker;owned environment, well good luck with that. Amazon is a force to be reckoned with. But, it did not just appear. Our government has a lot to answer for.Why have they without any oversight literally created a corporate welfare state which is so large is is beyond comprehension. Something may change if people speak up and fight enough,. 2020 is so very important that because if people don’t recognize and acknowledge the forced disparity that has been created since 2008 and the enormous transfer of wealth. TO DO SOMETHING, then I don’t believe it will be possible to EVER make a change after that. Democracy as we have known it will cease to be. They have used the opportunity and lots and it’s of money to tell us one thing while we witness something very different. The people are awake and understand the risks. I really hope we see a change like never in history, because without question this is our last stand one way or the other.
A gazelle is a company which is growing so fast that even the fastest predator(competitor) can't keep up. The common usage has nothing to do with picking off the weak.
COST is NOT the factor that I use when choosing to use Amazon's site. My ability to consistently receive the product or service on a FAST and quality manner is my driver. Personally, I am both a SELLER on the Amazon Marketplace worldwide and a purchaser of items for both my business and personal use – in the USA and in Europe. Watching this video, am left with very MIXED feelings about the Amazon "customer experience story". First of all, at first glance I do NOT find that Amazon is customer focused and overly worried about providing an exceptional customer delightful experience. Most of the time – perhaps 85% Amazon meets my expectations; but, I do NOT believe they delight me both as a SELLER and as a purchaser. Too many times I have experienced issues and found solutions with Amazon SUPPORT folks to be slow, cumbersome and quite difficult. Recently however, I did have a fairly serious experience on some items purchased on Amazon USA and shipped to me in Europe. There is a "trick" way of communicating with Amazon – I remembered hearing about – so I used it and quickly achieved a surprising delightful solution and more importantly corrective action on the part of Amazon internally. However, from an Amazon SELLER perspective – I can only say I find the experience to be "minimum acceptable" – just enough so – I will continue to sell on Amazon – but not delighted. Concerning Amazon's expansion into food retailing, I am DEEPLY troubled as to what I read and hear about concerning the Whole Foods Store shopping experience. Overall I use Amazon as my FIRST shopping place several times a week both in the USA, Germany and the UK (Northern Europe) where I am currently living. I find it quick and easy to purchase an item on Amazon COM USA – and ship it by air to Europe and have Amazon handle all aspects of the shipment including customs processing and duty payment with minimum effort on my part. Considering local purchasing options for the same item, the Amazon delivered cost from the USA is quite acceptable to me.
All the C-level exec's and management at Amazon — can't everyone see the madness in their eyes, and the crazy obsessive compulsion to be God and take over every facet of everyone's life? It's all framed under the mantra of "customer experience" — it's a safe word. Sometimes it seems they want to play with their lip after they answer the final question.
These people are obviously insane but very glib and polished. We could put up a fence around the company and a banner name declaring it an insane asylum and who would know the difference. They are cult-leader types — like Jim Jones — seemingly very nice and sweet but wanting to be all powerful with a mindless, obliviously happy following.
One-sided and the story drafted to be like the news, drama and only the negative and build a case around it. (I don’t work at Amazon, don’t even have Prime)
So by "renting out" the AWS cloud service to the government, Jeff will also have total control and access to that stored data. He can, in effect, once enough time has passed and enough control has been rendered, assume control of how government acts — or doesn't. How can the government stay sovereign and impartial if Bezo is in possession and control of their data (humerous, rhetorical question).
I've made a few pennies doing "Rekognition" photo tasks on Amazon Mechanical Turk. I have done a tiny amount of categorising faces as male/female, but I imagine AI would be better at that than human beings. As with the Oprah pic being labelled male, AI probably sees the reality of the bone structure: Does this person have a male skeleton or a female skeleton? People have been brainwashed by pop culture to ignore such basics as sexual dimorphism and see only the gender role that someone portrays.
I don't get it, how is amazon a monopoly? They're not merging with anyone, all they're guilty of is being a fucking beast at whatever sector they decide to set foot in. Can someone explain?
Traditionally, anti-trust law was about breaking up a company seeking to create a monopoly to make prices HIGH. Today, for three decades, it's been deemed "okay" to monopolize so long as the company keeps prices low. By the way, the Sherman act of 1890 was NOT about government granted or sanctioned monopolies…
Concentration of power can happen in the private sectors without government involvement. Bezos, as well as many before him, have perfectly demonstrated this fact and the mechanics of how to gain so much power and leverage. Amazon just put a clever twist on the traditional model of market domination, but low prices or not doesn't negate what Amazon is doing and they need to be broken up.
So Amazon was also great at creating "employee ecstacy". At first, the arrival of an Amazon center seems "exciting" and good, but then once everyone has been sucked in and the competition eliminated reality sets in and it will be the "employee nightmare". This is nothing new and why unions and anti-slavery laws sprang up. It's not really about productivity rates, it's about dehumanization. Anyone treated with respect will work harder ro get something done. Humanity and respect has left the American workplace, and THAT is why no one wants to work anymore — there's no percentage or future in it.
Now tell me, how much over the "national minimum wage" will Amazon pay once it's domination is greater; and what good will their subsidy for college do when Amazon is the only employer in town? Just like they sucked in customers with below market pricing to steal marketshare, they offer double minimum wage and college subsidies to suck in workers and draw them away from other companies. This is key to fully executing the plan to take over…
It's criminal insanity that it is, once again, the gangsters that run Wall Street who are making this possible by financing Amazon's losses so they can all take over the world. If Wall Street could be shut down we could end MOST of the problems in this country today. It's nothing but a casino housing a bunch of parasites sucking the wealth out of the nation, causing havoc in everyone's life when the bill hits John Q. Public.

Good documentary. I’d still rather shop Amazon then Walmart. Walmart is even more greedy.

Thank you Amazon. You've just encouraged me to become a card-carrying member of the ACLU. (Oh sht. Does Amazon sell that too ??!)
