Autism Panel At MCM London Comic Con (FULL PANEL TALK)
This is an autism panel talk at MCM Comic Con in London from October 2019. In this talk we discuss what advocating for autism looks like and how to create …
I mentioned in a early video about my belief Mark Lever step down as CEO of the National autistic society because of the mental health scandal in Durham.
So yesterday the NAS website put up government further plans from the petition, One was plans failed by the autism act which was promised by the government.
Slightly off-thread, Dan, did you come across an article in the Evening Standard the other day, about comedian Paddy McGuinness (who has two – perhaps three – daughters on the Autism Spectrum), parking his car in a Disability Parking Space and – despite having Disability Parking permits for his children on display in his car – was told by some ignorant person that he had no right to park there and that his children did not 'look' disabled? The way he dealt with the situation was a credit to him. It popped up on my news app and I truly felt for Paddy and his family. I get this every so often that I do not look disabled because of my other disabilities that are hidden and was told 'I don't look Autistic' . Please would you do a video about this and bring Paddy McGuinness' recent experience into the discussion? This is a problem that perhaps causes more stress than anything to us. (FWIW, it increases the stress in me (as if I am not constantly stressed due to my AS/ADHD/PTSD), particularly as I have a RADAR Key and a Concessionary Plus Bus Pass to travel free because I am on medication that would make me a danger behind the wheel of a car etc. ) The worst is at those PIP assessments. Keep doing what you are doing, Dan, because you are helping thousands of people. Peace and All Good.
Hey, could you do a video on cheaper noise cancelling headphone options as I really need a pair but my mum canβt afford the expensive ones that many use
Regarding advocacy, I agree with Dan, you don't have to have autism to be an advocate, you just have to have an interest in autism and spreading awareness and education usually when you are a parent of a child with ASD or are working with a child with ASD.
Connor spot on 31 mins in saying. "The traits of autism are human traits, someone can be socially awkward and not be autistic". You said something on the lines of that.
What question would you ask us if you were there?
The Disney LEGO train is beautiful!
