We're quitting smoking, so why is big tobacco booming?
Smoking rates are falling in the UK, US and much of Europe. Forty-five per cent of Brits smoked in the 60s and 70s, compared with just 15% today. You would …
In sweden only 10% of The population smoke cigarettes. This is most likely due to the healthier alternative snus. But The lobbyists in EU has banned snus. People should be able to enjoy tobacco safley
Quitted 9 years ago with the help of the book "Easy Way To Stop Smoking" from Allen Carr. I always give that book to friends who want to quit. It is not always well received since it seems like a self-help book, but it isn't and it actually focuses on "why we smoke", rather than "why we should not smoke". Happy quitting!
I moved back to England 2 years ago from Southern California and the British smoking culture is by far the worst thing about living here. Even people that play sports and workout smoke. My Sunday league teammates openly smoke before, during (on the sidelines) and after matches along the coach. My boxing coach also smokes. This would be unthinkable in the US for recreational athletes and coaches to be openly smoking near a pitch.
It seems about 40% of Brits smoke, especially young adults, and I can't understand why the UK is so far behind the US in their anti-smoking efforts. Does anybody know why?
SImple answer. Don't let tobacco companies sell or produce vaping products. It's clearly a conflict of interest. Let the grassroots vaping industry solve the problem, it's clearly been working well enough to grab the attention of tobacco companies.
I've smoked cigarettes for eight years, but I'm not proud of my addiction. From all of the techniques that I've employed, understanding exploitative business models from big tobacco seems to work the best for me.
I’m not a smoker, but I am a thinker- length of smoke is not a unit. The statistics in this video are extremely misleading, and while I’d like to reduce our society smoking, it would be nice to see it done honestly.
I only used to smoke at work (and did so for 14 years), and at one point started smoking at home when I was basically bringing work home. Fortunately, I've been smoke free for a year now, since I finally found a workplace that lets me nap instead.
I think, throughout those years, I had been using smoking as a crutch for undiagnosed anxiety. Learning about big tobacco didn't really change my smoking behavior much, especially during rougher times when I would smoke so I don't feel hungry.
Cigarettes used to cost 5rs/cigarette back in 2010 in Mumbai, now the same cigarette costs 15rs/cigarette. I had quit smoking for a few years in between, now I smoke a cigarette/week, which is drastically less than what I used to when I started smoking. The main reason that discourages my smoking is price and the ill efects on health.
I'm currently abroad and i'm still seeing people smoking like chimneys. Where's the solution?

Smoking is fantastic, recommend anyone to take it up.

If hell exists, theres a special place for big tobacco CEOs. And if hell doesnt exist, karma is real
After a few failed quits I've now been smoke-free for 20 months going cold turkey. I'd smoked for around 33 years.
Cigarettes are for poor people with very few option to "have fun".
In my country, Vietnam, a red Marlboro costs around 1$.
when I'm drinking I always end up smoking. Alchohol and cigs are like peanut butter and jelly.

I quit anytime I want , but then I like sugar and other dopamine sources more.
I'm glad to hear that women from the UK are not affected by the fry voice and upspeak thing epidemic.

You did a great job.
what i don't like
is that it takes A LOT of fertilizer and nutrients to create a tobacco plant
and then it's literally set on fire
we'd do better to use those resources to plant fruits and vegetables
(but not corn if youre going to use it for biofuel, for the same reason)

Time to invest
Looks like it’s just gonna get bigger

Grown your own. It's not the tobacco that kills people, it's the additives.

Wait a minute. Most of these companies are british! Why isn't the UK government looking at ethics charges?!
